R-CAR M3 Salvator-xs Board Issues

Hi All,

 

I have been struggling with the R-CAR Salvator-xs board bring up.

Now i have managed to Boot the kernel using m3ulcb with following issues

a) USB Disk does not get recognized

b) HDMI Display not working , when I connect the HDMI cable I get the following message on Minicom Console

   Console: Switching to color frame buffer device 124x48

   rcar-du feb00000.display: fb0: frame buffer device

But nothing is displayed on Monitor (the LED Next to HDMI port blinks continuously)

    1. Gen3 Yocto version ? (Yocto v3.21.0 ?)
    2. Full boot log from power on reset

    BTW, prior to power on the Salvator-XS board, please connect USB mouse.

    a) I am now using Yocto V3.21.0 , But I had the same issues with V3.19.0 also

    It seems that the rootfs has been compiled for M3 Starter Kit, not Salvator-XS.

    And it's not clear which DTB has been used to boot up the board.
    To boot up R-CAR M3 Salvator-xs Board, are you using "Image-r8a7796-salvator-xs.dtb" ?

    It's OK to use "salvator-x" Yocto build procedure for both Salvator-X board and Salvator-XS board.

    To boot up Linux in M3 Salvator-XS board,
    we need to use "Image" kernel binary and Image-r8a7796-salvator-xs.dtb (*1).

    (*1) from the boot log, it seems you are using M3 rev1.1/1.2.

    If you do NOT use the right DTB for the board, there's no guarantee of the system boot up.

    BTW, please update the firmware using the generated binaries from Yocto build.
    About the updating procedure, please refer to Yocto startup guide.
    If you do not have it, please get the YoctoStartupGuide manual from Renesas via Vender.

    Sorry, I do not know how you flash the u-boot, so that I cannot help.
    And I suggest that you should flash all binaries at once, not only the u-boot binary.

    I flashed u-boot following the procedure @https://elinux.org/R-Car/Boards/M3SK#Flashing_firmware

     

    I use the above address to flash U-boot using mini-monitor program.

    I tried flashing u-boot-elf-salvator-x.srec and u-boot-elf-salvator-xs.srec , I get the same issue for both.

    When I flash back u-boot-elf-m3ulcb-v2018.09+gitAUTOINC+2b858f59e8-r0.srec the kernel boots (but this is not i wanted as my board is Salvator-xs)

    There are 03 USB ports in Salvator-XS board. Have you confirmed all USB ports ?
    BTW, please check the switch settings in the board and check the board manual (*1) for suitable settings.

    (*1) The board manual can be found in the CD in the Salvator-XS board package.
