  • Hi Madhuc,

    Could you explain your issue and/or your question in more details ?

    Look like you got some problem with Internet access via your R-Car M3 (Starter Kit ?) ?

    Hello Khiem,

    My Linux is up and running, on my R-CAR M3

    I want to install some packages on R-CAR for which I need internet access

    I am not sure how do i get teh Network up for this ?

    if you can tell me how do i get internet up ?

    Thanks
    Madhu
  • In reply to madhuc:

    Hi madhuc,

    The procedure is similar to configure Internet access for a linux PC.

    We can use command ifconfig to set the IP address for ethernet device.
    $ ifconfig
    < find the ethernet device, assume that it's eth0 >
    $ ifconfig eth0 up
    $ ifconfig eth0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
    < make sure that the IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is Internet-accessible >

    HI Khiem,

    THanks

    Can i directly connect the Eth port on RCAR to wifi ROuter LAN port and try ?
    Does R-CAR has built in wifi ?
  • In reply to madhuc:

    Hi madhuc,

    > Can i directly connect the Eth port on RCAR to wifi ROuter LAN port and try ?

    From my knowledge, it would be fine.
    If the DHCP is not worked, please set the IP directly.

    > Does R-CAR has built in wifi ?

    The R-Car M3 starter kit itself does not have built-in wifi chip.

    Hi madhuc,

    > I also see that the BL3 boot says no Ethernet found

    Please set the MAC address by u-boot command.
    e.g. setenv ethaddr <MAC address on top of Ether port in Salvator-XS board>

    At the uboot console, the commands would be similar to below (make sure to use correct MAC address)
    setenv ethaddr 2E:09:0A:00:BE:11
    saveenv

    Hi Khiem,

    Can i use a USB wifi dongle to get connected to internet ?
  • In reply to madhuc:

    Hi madhuc,

    It's largely depended on the Linux support of your wifi dongle.
    You may need to check the firmware support of the USB wifi dongle in the vendor site.
  • In reply to KhiemN:

    Hi Khiem,

    I have managed to connect LAN cable to RCAR and when i say ifconfig eht0 up i get the following response

    root@salvator-x:~# ifconfig eth0 up

    root@salvator-x:~# [   59.951904] ravb e6800000.ethernet eth0: Link is Up - 100Mbps/Full - flow control rx/tx

    [   59.959933] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth0: link becomes ready

    Should i also issue command

    $ ifconfig eth0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ?

  • In reply to madhuc:

    Hi Khiem,

    When i make the etho0 up by uing

    ifconfig etho 192.168.0.110 up I get the following message

    but when i ping 8.8.8.8 which is google.com I get

    PING 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8): 56 data bytes
    ping: sendto: Network is unreachable

  • In reply to madhuc:

    Hi madhuc,

    The procedure to setup ethernet connection is common in Linux environment. There's no special steps in RCAR boards.
    If the IP 192.168.0.110 works in another Linux PC, it should work in RCAR board.

    Thank you.
